I am an unhappy customer most every visit to the dentist.
I am one of those lucky patients who cannot be numbed…even with laughing gas, followed by local numbing, followed by multiple shots of novacaine throughout my mouth. They put headphones over my ears to cover the noise of the drill and also supplied my own personal TV mounted in the ceiling.
I still spend my time in the chair gripping the seat and begging God to take my life.
Yet…I am amazed that:
- They were flexible enough to handle the procedure…even though I showed up on the wrong day. The dentist and his staff adjusted their day to accommodate my mismanaged schedule.
- And, they showed pure grace towards me, even apologizing that they might have miscommunicated. But we both know that it was my fault for putting the wrong date in my calendar.
- Finally, the doctor called me tonight at 7:30pm to personally check up on me. It isn’t just because I was getting a rebuilt tooth – he calls every patient after their procedure to make sure they are okay.
I may experience a lot of pain…and hate going to the dentist…but that doesn’t keep me from recognizing when someone is delivering a quality of service that stands head and shoulders above everyone else. I am impressed.
Can you see beyond your pain and appreciate when others go the extra mile for you?
Thanks for listening.
