One of my sons was born with a lot of natural talent for playing soccer. I loved watching him play…and he was very successful at the sport. When he was 16, his team finished 3rd in the Georgia Gatorade State Tournament, which was the highest levels of achievement for a recreational level team.
My other son was not as naturally gifted at the game of soccer. However, his passion and dedication to the game pushed him up several levels higher than his God-given talent. He dedicated himself to the strict disciplines of training and preparation. Ultimately, he earned a position on a competitive travel team and far exceeded all our expectations.
Yes, it is nice to be gifted. But, it is also true that:
- Passions lead to choices
- Choices lead to habits
- Habits become talents
- Talents are then labeled as gifts
We’re not usually born gifted…we become gifted.
Thanks for listening.
