Being a rookie sailor, I regularly encounter lingo and terminology that I don’t understand. I am excited to share that I learned some new words this week!
Lifts and Knocks occur when the wind changes direction (which is essentially “always”). If the wind changes in a direction that helps pull me closer to my destination, it is called a “Lift”. If the wind changes in a direction that pushes me farther from my destination, it is call a “Knock”. Sailors don’t argue with the wind shifts…we are simply taught how to adjust when they occur.
What a great life lesson! I’m going to try to apply that perspective towards the other things that occur in my life which are outside my control.
Thanks for listening.
