I love reading articles like this one about the SpaceX program. Elon Musk (who founded this private venture) is a business magnate, engineer, and investor who also founded PayPal and co-founded Tesla Motors. He is someone to pay attention to.
During an interview for a 2005 article in Fast Company, he gave what has become one of his most enduring quotes: “There’s a silly notion that failure’s not an option at NASA. Failure is an option here. If things are not failing, you are not innovating enough.”
(He said this as a reaction to the famous quote “Failure is not an option” by Gene Kranz, NASA’s legendary flight director. You may remember him from the movie “Apollo 13“)
I find that fear can often keep me from taking the risks I need to take in order to innovate. I need to push through that fear in order to make a change that actually makes a difference.
How about you? Do you give yourself permission to fail?
Thanks for listening.
