I think there are 3 or so reasons for choosing the job you are in. These are not necessarily good or bad reasons…but if you are confused in your motivations, you will not find the joy you seek. And you will not pay the price that needs to be paid to find joy in your life.
1) Pay – If you chase money, you tend to sacrifice your personhood. You often have to become someone you don’t want to be.
2) Position – If you chase a job description (doing what you really want to do), you tend to sacrifice pay. We all know that hobbies don’t pay the bills.
3) Person – If you chose to serve a specific person (or cause), you tend to sacrifice position. You have to take whatever position is available to get onto that person’s team.
Perhaps there are other reasons. Whichever reason you choose, you pay a price to hold a job. Just be sure that you make this decision intentionally and not accidentally.
Thanks for listening.
