Support teams like the facility crew, IT department, communications, and accounting are often the last people to hear about your next big project idea. When you submit your support request to them, you have already spent days (or weeks?) discussing the goals, objectives, obstacles, and scheduling issues.
In your mind – the clock has already started ticking. It is easy to think that these other teams should be ready to move…ready to implement…and have plenty of resources standing by to deliver for you.
But life doesn’t work that way. Their work schedules are already behind because of the last two dozen projects that showed up out of nowhere. They aren’t preparing themselves to be ready for your next big idea. They are still digging out of the hole created by the last big idea.
Don’t wait until you have everything figured out to ask them for help. Send the request now and start the clock. They (and you) will be appreciative of the additional time to prepare.
Thanks for listening.
