I can’t count the number of projects I encounter, where there are no obvious solutions. From the very start, we encounter constraints at every turn….creating unimaginable pressure between lists of objectives, available resources, and schedule deadlines. I confess that I often become discouraged by the lack of clear solutions. For some reason, I think it should be easier…and forget that is the basis for a breakthrough.
As a Star Trek fan, I was preparing for this week’s movie release by watching several of the classics. In Star Trek Generations the original Captain Kirk teams up with Captain Jean-Luc Picard to fight an intergalactic terrorist. At one point, Picard challenges Kirk how he approached situations from the past which were filled with risks, obstacles, and no-win scenarios.
“It was fun” was Captain Kirks reply.
Really? Is that how you feel? Not me. It’s not my natural reaction. But that attitude is the key to embracing the journey that God designed especially for you and for me. If we can set aside our fears…and plunge ahead in spite of the risks…we will discover a fresh sense of joy for the miracles that God will deliver through us!
As Picard presided over Kirk’s funeral, he delivered this powerful thought: “What we leave behind is not as important has how we lived.”
Thanks for listening.
