A few years ago, we had scheduled an enormous number of Easter services and I was concerned over an officer who was being assigned to cover the traffic management. I felt he was not up to the task because of his lower rank…and said so to the officers who coordinated our schedule.
The response? “He is not a senior officer, but he is well seasoned. You can trust him.”
Wow. That really settled it for me. I didn’t need people of high rank and position – I needed people who knew how to get the job done. I never questioned their choice of officers after that conversation.
So, what are you chasing in your career? Are you trying to become part of a “senior staff” or a “seasoned staff”? It can be tempting to chase a position and forget to chase competence.
Thanks for listening.
