Yesterday I said written is better.
While that is true for decisions and details…written communications are a horrible substitute for conversation. Yet, we do these every day:
- We admonish others through email
- We negotiate by text messages
- We use memo’s to influence decisions
I hate it when others “write” their conversations (usually frustrations) to me…and I feel remorse when I respond in kind. Whenever we need to have a difficult conversation, let’s muster the courage to speak face to face.
Otherwise, we need to hold our tongue.
