We just finished a phenomenal series at church called “Unscripted.” It leveraged a new book from Ernie Johnson Jr by that same title and focused on the fact that we often write the script for our lives…expecting life to play out in a predictable manner.
But, life doesn’t work that way. Life is filled with surprises and unexpected twists and turns.
It just happened to me last week. I traveled to Dallas, TX to participate in a User Group gathering of organizations who use the same product for their Enterprise Management System. I wasn’t going with an expectation to receive any new insights. We’ve been on this product for more than 8 years and I felt like we had already learned most everything. So, I was only attending in order to serve the community and see if I could help others.
But the surprise was this: I learned a TON. I got fresh new ideas from other organizations and they inspired me to take some new territory! By the time it was over, I had pages and pages of notes to bring back to my team. I am excited by the opportunities that lie ahead!
I think that is part of the big idea behind “Unscripted”. If we can begin each day with the idea of serving others rather than to be served by others…we may find that every day has a pleasant surprise in store!
Give it a shot. Let me know if you experience that too!
Thanks for listening.
