Last December, I took a sabbatical from writing these posts. I had wrestled for many months to gain traction on writing a book and I imagined that I could divert the time saved from blogging to publishing. Instead, I have written nothing at all. Nada. Zero.
Interestingly, I also stopped exercising during that same period of time. And, I started eating a lot of junk food. So, I have built significant momentum at:
- Not writing
- Not exercising
- Not eating right
- Not reading my Bible
So…I have had to relearn a difficult lesson. Self-Discipline isn’t something that can be “transferred” from one area of my life to another. I can’t quit blogging and magically turn that time into exercise or devotion time. Self-discipline is something that has to be added layer upon layer in EVERY area of my life. I am actually stronger when I build all these habits together rather than separately:
So, I’ve exercised twice in the last few days…and read several chapters of Scripture. I’m cleaning up my clutter of CD’s at home…and now I’ve written one post. Perhaps I can build some fresh momentum across the entire spectrum in 2016.
How about you? What are you doing to build your self-discipline?
Thanks for listening…again.
PS: Special thanks to Dan Reiland for encouraging me to start writing again!
