There was a time in my life when I was so fearful of failure…and most of my energy was spent trying to “contain” a project. The fact is that I didn’t want my project (or my responsibilities) to grow outside of my ability to control. Fear led me to protect myself…by reducing and resisting anything “bigger” than I felt I could safely manage.
During that season of my life, I would have seen a catastrophic loss (like Notre Dame in the BCS Championship last night) as an event to be avoided at all costs.
However, that approach to life fails to consider the outstanding performances of Notre Dame throughout the past season that led to the opportunity to be in the BCS championship game. Here is an interesting thought to consider. If you were given chance to have a great winning season, be ranked #1, and play for a national championship…would you take it? What if you knew that you would be crushed in that final game? Would you still chase the opportunity…or would you take a pass?
It is time to leave fear behind and tackle the “more” that life has to offer. Take the risk and reach for the stars. Stop limiting your projects to only what you think you can achieve. Tackle something bigger than you could possibly succeed at, and see where that takes you. You might just find yourself in a championship game…
Thanks for listening.
