I watched an incredible come from behind victory by the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football this week. After being behind 24-0 at halftime….Peyton Manning led his team to win 35-24 and they are now in first place in the AFC West Division. It was amazing to watch (even though I was secretly pulling for Philip Rivers and San Diego Chargers).
Does everyone want to be the leader of a winning team? Is it normal to desire to be a superstar like Peyton Manning that organizes their team and inspires them towards victory? I think so…but that is not the typical experience of a project manager. If we perform well in our role, then OTHERS on the team look like hero’s (not us).
Project Managers are not supposed to be front and center of attention. Project Managers make sure that everyone has the resources they need…the information they need…and the time they need to accomplish their goals.
Can you do that? Can you let other people get the “win” in your projects?
Thanks for listening.
