Machines have moving parts. Lots of them. Think about an engine with pistons, valves, crankshafts, gears, and belts. Thousands of parts that are held in place to accomplish the task.
Projects have moving parts too. They are called “People”.
But people don’t stay locked in place like cam shafts and other machine parts. They move around a lot. They are busy accomplishing their craft. They are making and delivering on other commitments.
Sometimes people forget where they are supposed to be. Or, they are delayed from their last project. Or, someone forgot to communicate to them.
The point is: You can’t just assume they will always be where they are supposed to be (when you need them).
As a Project Manager, we should not micro-manage our people. We trust them.
But, “life happens”. It’s a good idea to double-check that they are prepared and ready… especially when the project depends on them.
Thanks for listening.
