I picked it up on a recommendation and was hooked by the subtitle “tools for talking when the stakes are high”. I am only a few pages into this book, but I am liking it already.
Page 21 talks about how we allow ourselves to be caught up in “The Fools’ Choice”. We deceive ourselves into thinking that there are only two outcomes to a moment of conflict.
- I speak up, and turn the other person into my enemy
- I suffer in silence, with the bad decisions or outcomes
The solution? Dialogue. Learning to be 100% honest and 100% respectful. Its hard stuff. Most people tilt to one side or the other.

Thanks for listening.
