My friend Janice made a statement that caught my attention:
“You appreciate the miracles, but you grow in hardship”
She was talking about her son, who has left a flourishing career (with one of the largest companies in America) to enter into full-time ministry and build a church in downtown Atlanta. His small church has experienced 9 salvations in the last 6 months…but that is not the source of his personal growth as a leader. He is growing because of the hardship of learning how to lead one day at a time.
I think we often over-value the miracles (lucky breaks, good fortune) and under-value the hard work of pressing on. Pastor Mark Eiken delivered some great thoughts on this value in his sermon “Grit versus Quit”
Thanks for listening!
