A few days ago I wrote a post named “Caught Again!” where I talked about being seen reading blog posts, stats, or social media at work. Ken affirmed that:
As a developer myself, doing some mindless activity helps reset the brain to tackle a problem.
So very true! Sometimes my brain hurts from the endless levels of detail and just needs a break. Today, my wife took me to lunch and we got some ice cream. We spent about 15 minutes sitting under a large oak tree with a cool gentle breeze…and I was ready to dive back into work with a fresh perspective.
Plus, I’ve found that browsing resources (without a clear purpose in mind) can often lead to the discovery of fresh lessons and insights. I ran across this website with stories and insights on other people in the engineering field…and it led me to this website and YouTube Channel with tons of fascinating content that provides simple engineering explanations.
Here is a great history lesson about How Bell Telephone lost a half billion, but nearly created the internet because it was a monopoly and not able to compete in a new market like other businesses.
And I now feel justified after learning Why the other line always moves faster.
My brain has now been stretched and encouraged to think differently tomorrow….
Thanks for listening.
