I confess that I have a tendency to exaggerate.
I come by it pretty honestly. I live in a world that seems unable to communicate without the use of hyperbole.
But leaders are not serving anyone well when we speak in exaggeration. After all, our words have power. We have been given a spiritual gift of Leadership (influence) and the Bible challenges us to be discerning when we use that gift. Since leaders can influence and shape the future – our words must be carefully measured.
When my project (or other situation) starts to veer off course, how do I respond?
I can make it worse through sarcasm, exaggeration, and speculation. Or, I can breathe calm into the storm, rightsize the issue, and restore sanity when everyone starts to panic.
Which would you rather I do? Whichever one you pick…go and do likewise.
