I serve in an organization that is masterful at finding, developing, and empowering leaders. We love leaders and everything they do to help us advance the organizational mission. Leaders are crucial to accomplishing our goals.
Leaders tend to thrive when details are sparse and the targets are vague. Leaders work best in an environment of creativity, vision, and values. Sometimes, the rest of the team hinders them with large amounts of unnecessary details.
However, the other members of project teams are the opposite. We need to know our roles and responsibilities…and which tasks have been assigned to us. Ambiguity leads to our confusion and inaction. We need clear direction. We need clear targets. We need clear deadlines and budgets.
Because a lack of clarity leads to lack of action.
As you lead…provide us with clarity, and we will reward you with action.
