Podcasts are a wonderful resource, but they can consume a lot of time. So, my list of favorites is very short. But I never miss the Andy Stanley Leadership Podcast. It is the best leadership podcast I’ve ever listened to on a regular basis.
However, the last 2 episodes have stood above the rest. Andy interviews Cheryl Bachelder, the CEO of Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, Inc., a publicly traded global chain of 2300+ restaurants. Their conversation is epic. There are more leadership lessons flowing from this interview than any other conversation I can remember. I was so energized by this podcast – it’s why I called this “Leadership Cocaine”!
Cheryl took over the company when it was about to fail, and has led them through a miraculous recovery. Over the last five years, their stock has quadrupled in value!
Here is my favorite take-away: Organizations don’t take risks. LEADERS take risks. The people always know what the problems are, but it’s the leader’s job to call out the vital few things that are going to change the future…and the people wait for him (her) to call it out.
Here is a link to the audio. There is a second session that is just as powerful as the first.
I hope you will take the time to listen.
