This week, I had the awesome opportunity to sneak away for a few hours to go sailing on Lake Lanier. Whenever I can, I rent this Hunter 31 to improve my skills and clear my head. This trip was unique because I was alone and the wind that day was at the top of the range of my sailing experience (average 15 knots with peaks at 27 knots).
At one point, I was so tired from the constant maneuvering of the sheets (ropes), the traveler (controls the boom), and the helm (steering wheel) that I started back to the dock. But then I had this thought:
This is the best wind (e.g. sailing experience) I have ever had…I can’t quit now!
So, I turned back and sailed for two more hours. By the time I ended the day…I could not raise my arms. Every joint ached. I hurt through and through. I still haven’t recovered.
The lesson is this: The time to act is when…
…The wind is blowing
…The fish are biting
…The customers are buying
…The project is funded
…The Holy Spirit is moving
We can’t wait until we have energy. We can’t wait until we feel like it. We can’t quit because we are tired.
Thanks for listening.
