Today is my dad’s birthday. He is one year shy of his 80th (which sounds really old). But he isn’t old. He is ageless in my eyes.
- He still sings in his church choir. Some of my favorite memories as a child were getting to stand beside him when he sang. He always had the best tenor voice of anyone around.
- He still does the heavy work of maintaining his home. He cuts the grass. He helps cook and clean. He even cuts and splits wood to stock up for the winter.
- He still learns new things. A few years ago he decided to learn how to play a cello. Then, he took up beekeeping and supplies our family with honey. His latest project is to learn the guitar.
- He still loves and serves the Lord. Even though I nearly drove our family crazy with my rebellion and atheist years, he never swayed from his faith. He continues to read Scripture, pray, lead our family, and serve in his church.
I can’t celebrate him enough. My dad is my biggest hero. He is that one guy that everyone likes and admires. He always looks for the best in others. He always strives to be on good terms and to be kind to others. And, he does that with the strength of character and faith that never fades. I always wanted to follow in his footsteps and be just like him. I’m still chasing that impossible goal even today.
I love you dad.
(Thank you for letting me used this post to encourage him today!)
Thanks for listening.
