If you are a leader, it doesn’t always help the team when you give everyone around you freedom of choice. When time is scarce and we are feeling the pressure to produce, we need you to take action and organize the work for us.
Don’t get me wrong – we love for you to give us choices when we have time to learn and grow from the opportunity. We feel important when you include us in the decision-making process!
However, when the chips are all on the table and the clock is running out, we want you to take command and move us (all of us) across the finish line. (sorry – that is a lot of metaphors)
Sometimes, this means removing choices from our team…even though it may seem nicer” to let us choose.
When we see your indecisiveness, we hesitate to follow. Under pressure, we don’t feel better to have choices. We just want to know what needs to be done and who is responsible for what.
Thanks for listening.
