Everyone on a project team is under pressure to produce. The constant growth of goals and objectives begin to encounter obstacles….reduced budgets…and tightened timelines. We all know what that feels like.
This pressure to produce leads us to increase our speed of production. We work faster and harder to get more done. The pace of life speeds up. We press on the accelerator and shift into overdrive.
But, the people on your team also carry another kind of pressure – the pressure to nurture their soul through relationships. If this pressure is ignored or unattended, we lose focus and motivation. We lose team synergy. That impacts the project.
Relationships cannot be nurtured at the speed of production. Relationships are build in low gear (slower pace). Conversations…the ones that we cherish…the ones that add oxygen to our soul…move at a slower pace.
As a project manager, remember to occasionally slow down and give the team an opportunity to nurture each other at the speed of relationships. In the end, you will actually produce faster.
Thanks for listening.
