Sometimes I have been involved in pivotal discussions…only to discover that I’ve misunderstood an important element underlying the issue.
I hate that.
Usually, it is because I entered late into the conversation…or that I “assumed” that I had a full understanding of the issues affecting a decision.
Unfortunately, I can see that behavior in others faster than I can see it in myself. I can more easily recognize when others misunderstand the issue than seeing that in myself.
How about you? Are you quick to jump in before you understand the issues? Stephen Covey said in his book “Seven Habits of Highly Successful People” that we should Seek first to understand….and then to be understood.
