For more than 13 years, I worked for NCR Corporation in the business world…and next month will be my 17th year on staff at 12Stone Church. As I compare those two experiences, there is a distinct difference in how projects are executed in those two environments (business and ministry).
Ministries tend to better understand relationships. They give grace when under fire…and protect what is most important. They understand that people matter, and and they go to extreme measures to express that value to those involved in the mission.
Businesses tend to better understand results. They place high value on excellence in execution…and they protect the bottom line. They understand the economic engine that is required to sustain their organization over the long term. They protect their profits and cash flows.
The truth is, projects demand both. We need to protect relationships (people) and we need to deliver results (production).
This is true in business. This is true in ministry.
I am very fortunate to work for a church that understands both aspects of a project. While here, I have learned to appreciate the power of both/and rather than either/or.
Do you tend to lean towards one or the other?
