My friend Charlie Weiland had a great observation this week. He said:
“Handing off the baton means that someone actually has to GRAB the other end before you let go”
What a great analogy for ensuring communication in our project teams. I can “hand off” information all day long, but nothing happens until the other person grabs it and advances it forward.
Each of us participate in both sides of the transaction. When receiving and giving information (especially when related to a hand-off in our project), make sure that:
- The person giving me the information has turned loose before I start running
- The person I hand it off to is ready to run when I let go
Thanks for listening.
