Last night, I attended the graduation exercises of the latest Gwinnett County Police Academy class. Together with friends, family, county officials, and other police officers…we celebrated the accomplishments of two dozen hard-working men and women who now enter their career as law enforcement officers.
In addition to the touching ceremony where family participated in pinning their new badges…there were also awards for best driver, best marksman, and highest academic achievement. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed refreshments while the celebration continued.
They should cherish that moment. The truth is, there will be fewer celebrations ahead. Most of their time will be filled chasing bad guys… completing tons of paperwork… and coping with people who will deride and disrespect them.
But, we still expect them to maintain their courage and passion to protect us and keep us safe. We expect full dedication to their duties. We expect nothing less than complete abandonment to their chosen profession…even without the celebration.
How about you? Shouldn’t we expect the same from you? Are you maintaining complete abandonment to your chosen profession…even with the absence of celebration?
Thanks for listening.
