I was sitting in my car this morning waiting for the first 53′ trailer to arrive. I needed two trailers at the warehouse to move 3,000 wrapped Christmas presents.
The 1st trailer was supposed to arrive early and be filled with pallets using my forklift. The 2nd trailer was supposed to arrive later and be filled with bicycles by volunteers.
But, the truck was running late. As I considered my options, I could stay with the plan which would delay my volunteers …or I could flip the plan and be delayed myself. Which path do I choose?
The answer depends on the critical path. Which choice provide the best overall result for the project?
- It’s NOT about being polite to the volunteers
- It’s NOT about making life easy for me
It’s about the project schedule and goals. Today, the volunteers were on critical path…not me. Therefore, I waited.
Either way, it is a courageous and bold decision to evaluate what is best for the project. Don’t misunderstand the decision that needs to be made when deciding what is “best”.
Thanks for listening.
