Can you spot the warning signs when your process is about to break…when your project is about to crash…or when your event is falling apart? Just like the warning signs on the dashboard of your car, there are usually warning signs in every project, process, and event. There is almost always a foreshadowing signal that the project is at risk.
I had one of those a few months ago. When I needed a key for our 20′ enclosed trailer (used weekly for our mobile campus), I noticed that there was only one spare key in the secret storage box in the offices. “No problem”, I said to myself. “We have more laying around here somewhere.”
Nope. Yesterday, when I again needed the spare key…it was gone. I was almost completely out of luck. The facility team’s spare was for the previous lock, not the current one. The regular driver and team admin were both on vacation. The only available key was on the other side of the county. So, I had a small adventure to locate the key…and it consumed half my day.
Afterwards, I did what should have been done when I first noticed the warning sign. I threw away all the old keys and replaced them with the current key. And the spare ring now has 7 extra keys…just in case…
When the warning signs flash, you better act before the system fails!
Thanks for listening.
