I have a close friend who is changing employers and asked me about the exit interview. “How honest should I be?” he asked.
It all depends on the level of trust that you have in the company you are leaving….and in how honest you were during your employment.
- If there is trust, speak up before you decide to leave. You can make the biggest difference from being an insider with a stake in the future of the company. However, if you fail to speak up before giving notice, you forfeit the right to speak after you leave.
- If there is no trust, then you can’t help anyone by venting when you leave. Disclosure without trust hurts you and the co-workers you leave behind.
Thanks for listening.
