This short clip is from an old episode from the Odd Couple” and it cracks me up!
We often are required to make assumptions. When we encounter large amounts of missing information, we can’t keep stopping our team to ask them to “fill in the gaps” for us. That slows down their progress and prevents the organization from moving forward.
At the same time, our assumptions also can lead to the biggest crashes in our projects. When we guess wrong…we are the ones that derail the project.
So, how do we make logical assumptions…and make them correctly?
- When dealing with issues of character, assume the BEST
- When dealing with issues of cost, schedule, and quality, assume the WORST
Most people get these backwards.
Thanks for listening.
