Most of the time, I have a clear sense of the goals and objectives for projects that I have initiated (or have been assigned to me). I usually know exactly what is needed to be done (e.g. that I have “X” number of weeks and “Y” amount of money to produce “Z” result).
But, what if I’ve not been given enough direction in my project? Sometimes, my goals and objectives are unclear. Sometimes my constraints are unclear. Often, my available resources are unclear. But my deadline is clear and is fast approaching…what do I do?
CHOICE #1 I can whine, complain, blame others, and stomp my feet. I tell everyone how unfair it is to have a deadline without a clear set of objectives and a goal that can’t be defined.
CHOICE #2 I can generate new ideas. I can create positive discussion with the people on my team. I can accept responsibility for helping move the ball towards a fuzzy goal. I can display a joyful attitude and be glad that I am employed and have work that inspires me to step outside my comfort zones.
What choice will you make?
Thanks for listening.
