I had a problem. I needed a trailer moved and Dave had the only key. So I called him and asked “Are you close by?” His answer was “no”.
Disappointed, I almost hung up. I had no solution for moving the trailer. But then, Dave asked me “What do you need?”
I replied “I need the trailer moved before 6pm.”
“No problem”, he said. I’ll be there tonight. Can I move it when I come?
YES!!!! I breathed in relief.
What is the lesson? I always ask the wrong question. I was trying to be kind by evaluating Dave’s ability to help me…so I asked questions relating to his convenience and not about solving my problem.
Let’s stop trying to evaluate what it costs people to help us.
Let’s just ask and let them make that determination.
Thanks for listening.
