I often feel such great despair at the state of our country. And, I confess that I get marginally excited every presidential election cycle…thinking that a leader might arise who would lead us back towards where we came from and rekindle our faith in God and Country. But, even the candidate I voted for isn’t measuring up.
Fortunately, our future does not depend on the next President…or the next Governor…or any governmental or church leader. Our future depends only on the faithfulness of God’s righteous followers, and He doesn’t need many to accomplish great things. Remember Gideon’s army who defeated the 120,000 enemy warriors? He only had 300 men. God had pruned down the Israeli Army from 30,000 out of concern that they might think the victory was theirs and not God’s.
I was reminded this week that there are still plenty of Christ followers who will follow the will of God, no matter what. The recent death of Justice Antonin Scalia encouraged me when I read about his faith in this letter.
There are many faithful among us. We will continue to follow God. And He will rescue us in due time.
Happy Easter. He is Risen!
