I recently wrote about burnout in this post.
Marissa Mayer (CEO of Yahoo) recently made some interesting statements that I have been marinating on. The one that caught my attention was this:
“I have a theory that burnout is about resentment…and you beat it by knowing what it is you are giving up that makes you resentful.”
That makes sense to me. There are many things I can think of that can add to that list of resentment:
- Time spent away from our family
- The nature of our daily routine
- The number of meetings
- Lack of communication
- Loss of a hobby
And so forth. She tells people “Find your rhythm”. What does that mean? “Your rhythm is what matters to you so much that – when you miss it – you are resentful of your work.” What might that be for you?
- Personal time off
- Date night with your spouse
- A good night’s sleep
So, go find what matters to you most and protect!
Thanks for listening.
