I have recently spoken to a large number of people who are feeling pressure at work. While they would not describe themselves as “chasing the money” or “climbing the ladder” they share a common sense of needing to stay late, work harder, and deliver more.
There are basically few options in that scenario.
- You can invest more time at work by stealing it from your family
- You can invest more time at work by stealing it from your sleep
- You can invest more time at work by eliminating all breaks, lunches, and social conversations
- You can give up and quit trying to succeed
Or, we can learn to trust that God will take care of the gap between what we can humanly accomplish and what we think needs to be done. At some point, we will either take things into our own hands and sacrifice our sleep, social life, and/or family to get ahead….or we will let go and trust that God is our provider.
God has created an intentional gap. You cannot accomplish your task list on your own. If you could…then you don’t need an all-powerful Savior to rescue you. You could just do everything yourself.
Therefore, we are being tested every day to put the first things first and let God be our deliverer. At some point, we have to do everything we know how to do…and then trust God for the results.
If we can’t do that as believers…why would anyone else listen to us about serving a loving God who provides for us?
Thanks for listening.
