A friend of mine owns his own business…and recently got one of those “golden tickets” to a potential customer that would blow the doors off his business. His salesman had landed a meeting with the key decision maker…and the two of them were preparing for the presentation of a lifetime.
At one point, my friend turned to his salesman and said “you need to let me handle this. I’ll lead the discussion and let you know if I need you.”
“Why?”, his salesman asked. “I did the hard work of getting us here. Don’t you trust me?”
“I do trust you”, he replied. And I want to protect you. “If you screw this up, we’re going to have a problem between us. But we’ll be okay if I screw it up.”
Sometimes a leader steps in to solve a problem that we don’t know we have. It’s best to learn to trust them and let them.
Do you have resentment when a leader steps in to protect you before you fail?
Thanks for listening.
