I was bragging on my daughter to a software developer – she is quickly becoming an expert on Tableau, a product used for business intelligence and analysis. I was showing him all the work she had done for me to produce new data reports for our organization.
He observed that she is obviously gifted to be a business analyst, and thinks strategically about displaying information to the people that need to see it. He said “that is what happens when you put the right person in the right position. You get the right stuff done…and faster.”
In his book “Good to Great”, Jim Collins talks about putting the right people on the bus and then getting them into the right seats on the bus. It is a great analogy for what we need to do with our project teams.
Two key questions:
- Are your people on the right bus?
- Are they sitting in the right seat?
Thanks for listening.
