I attended a meeting today where the company provided lunch. It was a very kind gesture…as we were being shown appreciation with both food and a complementary self-defense class from Krav Pro. It showed great generosity towards all employees.
(Richard and his team were amazing. I was impressed with their professionalism. He made sure that no one felt inadequate or under pressure to perform. He gave lots of “no-nonsense” advice about how to safely respond to a threat.)
Here is the thing that really bothered me. Only half of those who RSVP’d actually attended the class. Yes, things happen. Emergencies can interrupt our plans. There was some weather. There were some sicknesses. But that cannot explain the absence of so many people.
If you don’t bother to attend after sending your RSVP…you are stealing. An event was planned for you by people who worked hard on your behalf. Food was purchased to feed you. The room was setup by the facility team. Trainers sacrificed their time to travel to our site. Remember that the next time you casually RSVP and choose not to show.
Worse? Choose not to RSVP but show up anyway. Just do what you say…and if you can’t, call the event coordinator and apologize!
Thanks for listening.
