Ryan Fitzpatrick (quarterback of the Houston Texans) threw a record-setting 6 touchdown passes in their win over the Tennessee Titans this past weekend. In the post game interview, he is humble about his accomplishment and quickly moves to introduce his kids to the media. There is a special moment where he shows off his mathematical genius of a son.
After the young boy multiplies 93×97 (in his head in about 3 seconds)…Ryan shouts out a loud “BOOM” in celebration of his son. He is clearly a proud dad.
But – I think that should not be limited to moments of genius performances. I submit that each of us as parents should celebrate our kids in the same fashion. We should proudly introduce them to our friends and tell others how amazing our kids really are.
If we did that, I think we would all raise a bunch of genius kids. I am sorry that I didn’t do a better job of this when my kids were younger.
Kristi – you are the best mom I have ever seen. You are raising your kids with more patience than I thought possible. And, your business analytic skills cannot be matched by anyone I know.
Kenny – you demonstrate the most humility I have ever seen in a human being. You don’t take yourself seriously, and you invest in (and elevate) everyone around you. That makes you the best friend (or coach) anyone could ever want.
Sean – you have a higher level of relational skills than anyone in the family. You can influence and lead others with ease. You tackle bigger projects than anyone else around you (when others would shrink back). You are fearless.
If you are a parent, invest your precious words into celebrating your kids and enjoying how they were designed by God. After you introduce them to your friends, shout a loud “BOOM” and walk off (smile).
Thanks for listening.
