This weekend, my friend Jimmy and I traveled to Parkway Fellowship Church, located outside of Houston, Texas. They are a thriving group of believers who launched 10 years ago and have grown to 2500 people on a weekend. We were deeply impressed by their passion, optimism, and commitment.
While we were there, we were amazed by all the construction taking place. Both commercial and residential…and many DOT projects. Apparently, someone forgot to tell the great state of Texas that this country is in an economic slowdown.
We were invited to visit and help train their new Parking Team. They had grown beyond the size and capacity of their parking lot, and needed to start managing the traffic with a dedicated team of volunteers. We were all excited by the success of all 3 services – clearing the outbound traffic in 12 minutes!
When we arrived Sunday morning, it was pouring rain….so we needed to inspect the grassy overflow area to see if could be used for parking cars. Jimmy said “drive on over there and see if it will support our vehicle”.
It didn’t. You are looking at 6″ of mud when I stepped out of the vehicle.
(Our rental was returned slightly dirtier than when we rented it)
We were grateful for the police officer who rescued us with the winch on the front of his jeep.
But…it was a fun trip anyway. It felt like one of those “hold my beer and watch this” videos.
Thanks for listening.
