It can sometimes become a mental health issue when I start to cycle through the details in my head over and over, over and over, and over again…
But that is what Project Managers do. We obsess over the work breakdown structure, the dependencies, available resources, and the critical path items. We check (and double check) the project plan until we are loosing sleep over it.
What is the alternative? To become casual and allow the plan to get sloppy? Where is the excellence in that? If we don’t do this…then who else is going to obsess over the project? We are excellent at this precisely because we “obsess“.
- Professional musicians obsess over their song writing
- Craftsmen obsess about precision in their construction
- MLB players obsess over their batting stats
- Models obsess over their health and fitness
So, shouldn’t we obsess over our projects?
Thanks for listening.
