Everyone on the team is a child of God. Treat them accordingly.
However, there are some positions on the team that are more important than others. This is a fact of project management. As leaders, we have to pay more attention to the task list of those positions. They can bring success or failure to the project faster than the others.
For example, our church has two parking lots with 1400 spaces. It takes 25 to 30 volunteers (called “Parking Warriors”) working at full speed to empty and refill the parking lot between services. They are a fantastic team…they love people and they love serving together. But, their positions are not equal.
The South (upper) Entrance is vital to the flow of cars in & out of the campus. It requires constant attention to keep the cars flowing so that our children’s parking area does not jam up. The tensions can run high for the person at that intersection…they feel the heat when traffic backs up onto the street.
The person who serves at that position needs to be smart on their feet, quick to react to the unexpected, able to make decisions, and always demonstrate grace under fire.
People are equal in value. Positions are not.
Thanks for listening.
