I confess that I can get irritated when I am the last man out. When everyone else has gone home and I am left to pick up the pieces…I can become quite immature (maybe not on the outside, but I am on the inside). It has happened to me literally hundreds of times, when I am left:
- Picking up the cones left in the parking lot after a big event
- Cleaning up the leftover food from a volunteer team meeting
- Gathering all the trash left behind after a special service
Mandy Campbell was in that position last week, and she demonstrated a ton of grace cleaning up after a meeting we had attended. I commented on how kind she was to clean up after us when everybody left.
She responded with “It is much easier when I know ahead of time and prepare myself accordingly.” What great advice! I immediately made a note to do the same next time.
Do you plan ahead of time to clean up after others…or do you exit with the crowd?
Thanks for listening.
